I used this system this weekend and found the results impressive. I cleaned about 1500 sq ft of residential 30 oz pile nylon carpet in a 3400 sq ft home. Included cleaning entry, formal living, dining, family room, staircase, hallway, and game room. I would state the cleaning time to accomplish the process the same as shampooing with a steam rinse. I did not prevacuum, rather when straight to cleaning/prespraying (ceiling fans off). I pre-sprayed with a 2 gallon solo 456HD sprayer using the optional 6506 tip. Filled with 2 gallons of hot water and added 16 oz of Crystal Magic. I pre-sprayed with the same level of spray as I would with hot water extraction. My 2 gallons covered my entire 1500 sq foot project. I then proceeded to apply Harvard Control on top of the prespray. I used my same 8 oz measuring cup that I used to measure my Crystal Magic to scoop out the powder as I carried the Control bucket from room to room. The application was liking shaking the measuring cup from 30" high over the carpet. I used about 4 lbs out of the 15 lbs bucket (about 25%) for this amount of cleaning. I have to tell you this feels weird as it feels like you are spreading dirt around the home. I used the Clean Storm CRB machine with the standard splash shields installed to agitate both the powder and Crystal Magic in a north/south then east/west direction. I removed the handle off the CRB machine and even agitated the stairs with the same machine. I then proceeded to remove the splash shields off the CRB machine and installed the renovation trays and re-aggitated in a north/south/east/west direction (ceiling fans back on). I stopped 5 times to empty the trays. On the stairs, I only placed the back side catch tray on the CRB unit. I then followed with a final vacuuming and used my on-board crevice tool to pick up the powder that fell on top of baseboards or was pushed against the wall by the renovator trays. I have would compare the results the same as shampooing with a hot water extraction rinse but dried in less half the time! 100% of all my dark food marks were removed. The carpet had a shine to it when I finished that you normally experience the next day after shampooing with the steam rinse. I state this process did not save my any time as my normal procedure was to prespray, agitate, hot water extraction rinse, crevice but also did not take any longer. The hardest part of the process was the agitation and powder pickup on the staircase. My expense for the project was $7.50 for Control and $3.48 for the Crystal Magic. A 1500 sq ft of cleaning has a market value of $375 to $400 USD for professional cleaning ($.25 sq ft + service call). I asked the home owner her impression of the cleaning as compared to what I have always achieved in the past. She also agreed the results looked the same but offered the faster dry times. I found that loading, unloading the equipment in and out of my truck and in and out of the home was also easier as none of the equipment is super heavy. In summary the cost of the process was higher than standard extraction process (it usually cost me under $3) but based on the financial return and added customer satisfaction, I will continue to offer this as a cleaning option for my customers and recommend you try this too.
